Every once and a while, I’ll get a note that strikes me as different.  Something about it sets it apart.  I got one yesterday.  Maybe it had something to do with my third book, ‘When Crickets Cry.’ I’m not sure.  Anyway, twice today I have found myself clicking on this blog—written by a lady I don’t know and have never met—and reading about a boy that’s a week old.  Each time, I have heard myself saying, “Lord, can you please help this one.  Please...” I realize there are countless stories like this.  We each have been touched.  It’s just that this one has touched me.  Maybe you’re reading this because you want to know what I’m up to.  Currently, I’m editing my 9th novel, but, in truth, I’m distracted.  I’m thinking about Bennett.  Maybe it’s the picture.  If you’d like to read Bennett’s story, I don’t think his folks would mind.  And, I think they’d welcome your prayers.

As for me, I’ve been here most of the afternoon, and my backside has had all it can take—as has my brain—so I’m putting this thing to sleep and going for a run, where my forty-something year old body will creak and pop and try to burn off the desert I ate at lunch.  But that’s not the reason I’m running. I’m going for a run so the Lord can remind me that he’s known Bennett a very long time and that he’s intimately acquainted with his heart and that while I see a picture of a swollen boy lying helpless on white sheets with tubes running from his body, He sees his precious child, resting in the palm of his hand.

Thank you Charles. Once again your words have touched my heart. The blog is written by my son Geoff, Bennett’s dad.

I’m Bennett’s Uncle.  Thank you so much for your prayers.  My sister, Tabitha and her husband, Geoff thank God for hearing the ceaseless prayers the body of Christ is crying out.  We fervently hold on to His robe in faith.

Just wanted to say that Bennett is my grandson. Thank you so much for your prayers. Our God is truly awesome. We don’t know what the future holds for him, but as individuals and a family we are choosing to trust God every step of the way. Our prayer and hope is that God will be glorified in all of this and we are open to His will and perfect way that He will be glorified. (of course, we would choose Bennett’s healing but as Christ prayed—not our will but God’s be done).
    thank you again.

Your comments are so very true.  There truly are many children just like Bennett in this world.  We are comforted to know that God has formed Bennett just as Bennett was intended to be.  Thank you for helping get the word out as many prayers are appreciated.  I’m certain that if possible, my nephew, Bennett, would say “Thank you” too!

If you continued to follow Bennett’s blog, you know that he went home to be with the Lord on 11/7/11 at 2 weeks of age as his parents held him for the first time. They were listening to praise & worship songs as their bond with their son was strengthened and broken on the same day. The song that was playing as he left this world? “Beautiful Exchange” by Hillsong. God is and ever will be worthy of our praise. We are so thankful for the gift of our grandson but will always miss him, carrying a deep void that causes a pain as we wonder what might have been. Truth is, I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that there could be nothing better than what Bennett is enjoying right now… truly in the arms and presence of Jesus because of His most beautiful exchange.

I just finished reading my second book by you - “The Mountain Between Us”. I could not put it down, just like “Chasing Fireflies”.  Today I plan to try to find the other 5 and can’t wait until “Thunder and Rain” comes out. What a wonderful gift God has given you in writing. The fact that you use it to glorify Him, makes me want to keep reading.  Thank you for your high standards, your example of loving your wife and boys. The world needs more of that. If you are ever in Greenville, SC, I hope I can attend a book signing or somehow get to meet you. Thank you for hours of wonderful, inspiring reading. I can’t wait to start the next book!

    Thank you
