If you have read Maggie please post your thoughts by adding a comment.
I really enjoyed this book! I first read The Dead Don’t Dance and was going crazy because I couldn’t find Maggie. But I finally got it and read is very quickly! :) It was awesome. Are you thinking about doing another book about if Dylan and Maggie finally had a baby or adopted? I really liked the storyline including Bryce, Amos, and Amanda. :)
Have just finished reading The Dead Don’t Dance & Maggie both. Loved them both. I even went back & started reading TDDD again to try to find out: How did Dylan hurt his arm? It is mentioned several times in both books so I must be missing something. Also, in Maggie, when Dylan & Amos went to look at a body that could’ve been Amanda, Amos says she has a birthmark on her left hip. On the next page, Dylan asks Amos which hip the birthmark is on & Amos says, “Right.” Is there a hidden meaning in the different answers? Thank you so much for sticking to your guns & becoming an author. I have also read When Crickets Cry & have purchased Chasing Fireflies to read. You have a gift. Thank you & God bless!
Maggie made me both laugh and cry. I have read all of Charles Martin’s books except Chasing Fireflies and thats only because my cousin is reading it.
The Dead Don’t Dance was incredible!!!!! So I had to find Maggie to read. Both books should be turned into a movie!!!!!!! You have a most incredible talent of breathing complete life into the pages of your books. I have never read a book that touched every emotion possible, and enjoyed those feelings.
Truly a great Book !!!
Maggie got me hooked on Charles Martin books. It was awesome!. I have read, and own, every book he has written, and they are all fantastic, but “Maggie” is still my favorite.
I h ave read several of your books now and I wanted to share with you that you should NEVER, ever give a dog chocolate. It can cause their death. Please do not put this in any other writing you do. Basically, I like your stories and enjoy your books and I have done some proofing for an author so I am really sensitive to facts and ideas.
I loved, loved, loved this return to Digger and the characters that I had already fallen for...especially the back-story on Bryce. I have a penchant for murder mysteries and thrillers, and didn’t expect to find this particular book would meet my need for suspense...it was a nail-biter. My husband may have to take away my lamp b/c I could not go to sleep until I got to the end!
Since I hadn’t chased down the publication dates, I didn’t realize until now that When Crickets Cry came between TDDD and Maggie. I wish I had read them in regular print (they were only available in large print at our library). I can’t help but think that the larger print warped my view towards seeing TDDD and Maggie as more simply written. (I’ll have to track one down in regular print and read it again--a pleasure to be sure!) I still think WCC was more tightly woven than TDDD, but that may just be my past history as an RN and my love for dramas with a medical twist.
i just finished reading Maggie and have enjoyed both books ie the Dead Don’t dance as well. Are you writing another book after this—want to see them have children. Betty
I totally agree w/ Jo Purdy-could not have written my comments any better. Also wonder about the birthmark comment, movie comment-had the exact same thot. Also am wonding about a sequel?
Thank you for becoming my new favorite author-you have amazing, God given talant and I thank you for sharing w/ us your insight and observations.
I have read all of mr. martin’s books and love all of them. i am searching for a title of a book that i believe was written by him but i am not sure. any feedback would be helpful book was about a boy growing up and adopted by a black family in the south. he had a neighbor friend that was a girl. they grew up and the girl moved away. she came back years later dying of aids, probably, and she was so sick at the end of the book that the main characters carried her to an island in the river, baptized her and eventually she was buried there. like i said i thought it was a charles martin book as i was reading all of his books at that time. i could be wrong though. any ideas on the title of the book or the author would be greatly appreciated. carla
My first book by Charles Martin was When Crickets Cry. I was instantly hooked. I like his writing style and the way he developed his characters both the main ones and the minor ones. I went on to read Chasing Fireflies and Wrapped In Rain, and love them too. When I got to The Dead Don’t Dance and Maggie, they did not seem to flow as well for me, and I am not sure why. I do have to the same question as another poster as to the birthmark comment being on different hips.
Where and when can I get Maggie on audio??? I am dying to hear the sequel to The Dead Don’t Dance, but I can’t find it on audio anywhere!
Anxiously awaiting audio Maggie,
Gwen Bentley
I have to say this is my all time favorite Martin book! Once again Dylan shows how much he loves this woman and would die for her (just like Christ died for the church). I loved Bryce and I too am a big John Wayne fan. Nothing worth watching on tv or at the movies so I am glad for your books. You also show more about Dylan’s character in this book. He has integrity, something the Bible speaks of often. Dylan and Amos and the other men in this book are heroes we need today. Not perfect but have great integrity. *Spoiler Warning* I cried when Blue was buried and was on pins and needles when Whittaker was in Dylan and Maggie’s house. I gasped (out loud) at so many parts of this book. I was on a emotional roller coaster. I read Maggie in one day. I couldn’t put it down. You are a genius Mr.Martin. How do you do it? It is a gift from God. Can’t wait until I read more of your books. I am addicted. I wouldn’t change a thing in your writing style. God Bless!
Hard to compare, but probably even better than The Dead Don’t Dance, which was awesome. The characters came more alive , if you know what I mean. Loved it!
My first Charles Martin book was When Crickets Cry from our church book club. This got me hooked and I have since read, Wrapped in Rain and The Dead Don’t Dance (all in less than three weeks)...I LOVE MR. MARTIN’S BOOKS. I am on a wait list for Maggie, Chasing Fire Flies and Where The River Ends. Keep writing.....I can’t wait to read future books!!!
I read this book in 2 days during my commute (I live in the city so take the subway). I couldn’t put it down!
I find Maggie so amazing that , I think, it will be a good plot for a movie!!
Well, I read Maggie during my school days. I think the story is known to all children. When i read the story, i wished i could have been a Maggie.
I have just discovered Charles Martin. I read The Dead Don’t Dance and had to find Maggie. I loved them both. Just finished Wrapped In Rain. It was awesome. All 3 books have made me laugh , cry , and just plain feel good. Don’t ever stop writing. Can’t wait to read the rest of them.

My 28 year old son said I should read this book called “The Dead Don’t Dance”. I have to admit with a title like that, it was probably some waste of time weirdo book. Half way thru the book I had “Maggie” on my nightstand ready to read as soon as I finished “TDDD”. I was hoping there would be a sequel to “Maggie”. Any chance? I am about to start “Wrapped in Rain”. I’m so glad my son told me about your books. There are so many great points in your writings. One example I really liked is that we should care about and be friends with people even if they are “strange” or “different”, like Bryce.
I have read all but one of your books....shared with me by my neighbor. I just finished “The Dead don’t Dance”, and then “Maggie” today. I felt such pain for Dylan and Maggie and when I finally got to the happier ending, I couldn’t read for crying....think I used half a box of tissues. I have thoroughly enjoyed your books, and am going to buy the last one and share it with my daughters. I have also taken your name and list of books to our church librarian so she can add them to our church library. Thank you, and thank God for your talent.
The confusion over the location of the birthmark was VERY distracting. It took me out of the story as I read the rest of the section wondering if it was a mistake, or if they would find the dead girl really was Amanda. ‘Couldn’t really let go of it, even when I found out it was a mistake. I’m curious as to how that happens with all those editors at Thomas Nelson.
This one I had to put down I was sobbing so. This is my favorite!!!!
Excellent word pictures! I can picture Maggie sitting on the porch steps, her face dripping with watermelon juice, trying to spit the seeds as far as possible, & her mischievous twinkle in response to Dylan’s question about where she got the melon.
Keep up the great writing!
“Maggie” was magical. You are such a gifted writer and your books are so wonderful. I read one and I think,” That’s the best book I’ve ever read.” Then I read another book of yours and think, “ That’s the best book I’ve ever read.” “Maggie” is the best book I’ve ever read! It was so suspenseful and interesting!
I loved The Dead Don’t Dance and Maggie so much!!! You should make a 3rd book where they have a baby!!!
Having read all of Charles Martins books as you will see from my other postijngs (except When Crickets Cry) as picking it up today, Maggie was awesome! After reading Dead Don’t Dance, I was glad for a sequel to pick up the story with Dylan/Maggie. Charles captures feeling to their very soul, putting yourself in the setting, wanting to relive that era and time. The struggles, and challenges are raw and emotions real....a must read! Charles does not miss a beat....Again still think all his books need to be made into major motion picture!
Home run. His books have something for everyone. My mind contiually goes back to my youth when I read his books. A great thing by the way. I am not sure why but I feel younger when I read his books. Something that really stuck out to me was when Maggie started caring for little Dylan it seemed as things started to turn around for her. There is treamendous happiness in making others happy despite our own situations. When we find ourselves in distress often times when we show care for others we find hope for our own lives. It is truly in giving that we recieve.
I have started Wrapped in Rain it could be out of the park as well! Peace! Mp
A friend on Facebook shared your name as an author she liked and I’m hooked now. I like that you research each area and facet of your books: medicine, art, drive-in theaters, weapons, etc, etc. Have read all your books but The Mountain Between which I have and will be reading soon. Loved TDDD and Maggie - - really hope there will be another book about Dylan, Maggie, Amos, Amanda and Bryce. You word things in such a special way. Am thankful you will write about intimatcy in a delicate manner and not reveal the details. Blessings on you as you continue to use your talents.
Finished Maggie last night. As usual an outstanding book about love, faith, and redemption. Love your characters like my best friends. You are truly a gifted writer. I have now read all of your books. You write with your whole heart. What a beautiful spirit you have. Please write quickly so that I don’t suffer from withdrawal.
Just finished reading Maggie. Couldn’t wait to read it after The Dead Don’t Dance. I’ve read almost all the books and I have to say that Maggie was the best of all for me. I couldn’t put it down. Don’t know what to read next. But, I can’t wait to start another one. You make these people come alive so much. It’s like you are part of them. Someone asked how Dylan hurt his arm.....didn’t he say that he was digging at it because he felt unclean. Those two books should definitely be in a movie although don’t know if I could watch it. I’d have my eyes closed ALOT! Blue was the best dog ever......God bless you and your writing! For all those people who turned you down....you made a big mistake.....HUGE!
