Book Tour 2010 Requests?

73 comments | Share

I don’t know if this will actually fly with my publicist, but I have an idea…we are in the middle of planning my book tour starting in June and running ‘til whenever.  If you have a suggestion or a request—as to a location, post it here and I’ll forward to my publicist.  At this point, anything’s game.  We have lots of requests from bookstores around the country, but I was wondering what you all thought.

Disclaimer: If I don’t get to your city, don’t blame me.  My publicist makes all destination decisions.  Don’t shoot the messenger.  I know I just threw my publicist under the bus but she’s really cool and she’d like to know what you think, too.  So, any requests please?  (This will be embarrassing if no one responds.)

It would be fantastic if you could come to Tupelo, MS!!  We have Reed’s Bookstore which is where most signings are done (don’t know why...maybe because it’s the only independent book store?); John Grisham signs there with every new release if that interests you!  Do I get extra points for being the first to respond?

I would love to see you come to Hampton, Va. I love your books. Thanks for asking.

Please schedule a visit to Warwick’s Bookstore in La Jolla, CA.  You will draw quite a crowd.

Mr. Martin, We would love to see you visit East Texas!!  We have a wonderful bookstore, “Barron’s” owned by a local family. It would be a perfect venue for you!!  Longview is about 1 hour from the Louisiana border, and about 2 1/2 hours east from Dallas.  You have a huge fan base here, and we would love to have you visit!!

While you’re in East Texas, hop over to Katy on the far west side of Houston.  We have Katy Budget Books which often have author signings or Lifeway Christian Store.  I’d love to meet you and so would the rest of our book club.

I would love to see you any where in Southwest Michigan.  The themes in your books touch places deep inside of me and positively impact my outlook on life.

Phoenix area!!! We would love you to head to the west!!!

Please somewhere near Leesburg, VA.  We have a brand new Books A Million opening this spring, maybe they would love to work with you and your WONDERFUL publicist.  :) But there are other chains and freestanding stores that would be good too!  Northern Virginia loves your books!

Austin Texas.  Yes, definitely the Austin Texas area.  Have your people contact me and we’ll get it arranged :) I’ve loaned your books to hundreds of people (well, maybe a slight exaggeration) so you already have a great following here.

Maybe you could let your publicist know that people outside the USA read her Charles, though we claim him as our Charles. :)
Please head north of the 49th. :)
Say, Calgary, Alberta for instance. A trip to Banff, Lake Louise or West Edmonton Mall (3 hours from Calgary--biggest indoor mall in the world) might sway her???? Or maybe a sip of the famous Tim Horton’s coffee would “perk” her up for the idea??
    Please. Pretty please. :)

Um...Baltimore! Or just north of it in Harford County. There is a wonderful Christian retreat/resort center in Northeast, MD where you could host a workshop or book signing. Also, there is a Christian writers’ group in Harford County. Just sayin’.

I would very much like to have an autographed copy of your new book.  If your publicist is taking suggestions, please come to the ATLANTA area. (south side is best!)

Your writing is a joy to read.  I was introduced to your books by a friend who loaned me, ‘When Crickets Cry’.  I’ve been hooked since that day.  Our daughter is attending Regent University and I was delighted to learn that you are an alumni as well.  Keep up the good work Mr. Martin and I look forward to your newest novel.

  35. Lynn   on 04/10 said:

My friend already posted… I am the one who loaned her “When Crickets Cry” and it is still my favorite story. As a southern writer, you really should consider the Atlanta area… we like the southside, but traveling is an option. I can bring lots of friends and family who appreciate your books, Mr. Martin.  Looking forward to your novel coming out this summer and hoping to get an autographed copy or two.

I would love to be able to meet you.  Please consider coming to Northwest Indiana...Valparaiso to be exact.  I am a huge fan of your books and I love every single one of them, I am really anticipating this next one!  I know there would be quite a gathering for you here; I am pretty sure I have recommended your books to my whole community...;) I have gotten many hooked on your books!

We would like to have a book signing at our store.  It is independently owned and operated.  We sell many of your books here and have been since the beginning.  You have a large and loyal following.  We have a long list of people waiting for the next one to come out.  We would love to have you come and sign your newest book.  Thanks, Karen Hoyt

I purchased the first Charles Martin book that I ever read (on sale I might add) at the Mardel book store on Hwy 78 in Garland TX.  I’d love to see you there.  It would make “The Mountain Between Us” even more special if I could have it signed.  I hate to admit it but I’ve paid full price for all of them since… ;)

Abbeville SC would be a wonderful location for a book signing stop. Besides with the rich history here, you may well find fodder for a future novel. :-)

Florence, S.C. is not a large city, but we sure would love to have you at ANY of the book stores here. I buy all of your books at Family Christian book store, but we have Books A Million & Barnes and Noble. I don’t care which one, we’d love to have you.

I would love for you to come to Charlotte, NC. Actually Concord Mills Mall is in Concord, NC just outside of Charlotte, right down the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway, and there is a Books A Million store there. My 59 year old cousin recently had a stroke and found out she has a hole in her heart, they think since birth, so I sent her When Crickets Cry. I have read all your books so far and love every one of them.
P.S. My husband works for a race team and if you come I can get you a behind the scene tour!

I just read “Wrapped in Rain” based on a recommendation from Patsy Clairmont. Great story of forgiveness. How about the Tree of Life in Marion, Indiana? It’s a great bookstore and Marion is home to a large Christian university where my son is enrolled for next semester! Can’t wait to read more of your books.

    Anywhere in South Carolina!!!!  Please!!!

You really should tour your home state. The closest Books-a-Million to me is in Port Richey, FL, but I would gladly drive to Clearwater or Tampa to see you. I too have read all of your books and have recommended your works to many friends who are now fans. Your books speak to my heart. Eagerly awaiting the new one!

Tallahassee, FL :) I was introduced to your books through the ladies in my family, and have since seen all of my students read “When Crickets Cry”, after one asked for a recommendation of a non-Ancient literature option.  Our small Christian school has a thriving writing club, The Scratch of Quills, and they would love to meet you, as would I.

  50. Karen   on 04/20 said:

Jennifer, How cool!!  Lucky students to have you for a teacher.  How great to have a writing club.

I love all of Charles Martin books. I can’t wait until the new book comes out in June! I’m an elementary teacher from Tifton, GA (small, southern Georgia town) located on I-75. I would love the opportunity to meet Charles Martin but know that the chances are slim that he would come to Tifton (the AR Reading Capital of the World). Having him do a book-signing in a near-by city or town would be wonderful. Valdosta is near, but I would even drive to Macon or Atlanta!!!

We would love to see Charles Martin at a book signing anywhere in West Tennessee!!!!!

If you come to Wheaton, IL, I would think that the best place would be at Wheaton College, the College Church, or the Billy Graham Center.  All of them have plenty of room, which you would need as you have plenty of fans!  Wherever you choose, I for one will try to make it there.  May God bless you as you have blessed us, and lead you and your publicist in your decision.  I know you will wind up where you are most needed.  Wheaton or not.  :)

  56. Judy Littell   on 04/25 said:

Would love to see you in the Wheaton/Naperville, Illinois area.  My daughter and I are both big fans and have been anxiously awaiting your next novel.  Thank you for providing it.

I’m amazed at how humble you are. “..if no one responds.”? Yea right!

I live in Paducah, KY, which is in the western part of the state. Oh please please please come here! That would be amazing! I’ve loaned your books to practically everyone I know. If not Paducah, then Nashville, TN, would be next best. That’s a big city, so maybe your publicist won’t mind?? I would be there in a second!! Please come somewhere close!!!

Love your books and can’t wait to read Mountain! It’s already on pre-order for my JUNE birthday:)

Charles, Harley and I would love to see you in Houston.  Maybe a February bookstore date to correspond to the “big” rodeo and barbeque the Bayou City hosts each year would be a good experience to go along with your new novel.  I bet we could talk Steve into joining us for a eat your way across Texas barbeque experience that he loves so much.

Mr. Martin, I cannot put your books down.  I travel with them, carry them on every errand, talk about your writings as if I know you personally and hold my breath until your next book comes out.  Shreveport, Louisiana is a book reading city you cannot believe.  Come to see us.  We will be so gracious and hospitable - you will want to come back.
