A couple times a month, I get an email from a husband who’s not too pleased with me. Most say the same thing. They tell me that their wives have paid them no attention and when they get in bed, they find she’s curled up with one of my books. “Go away.” Seriously, I had a man write me after his honeymoon and rip me a new one because I’d ruined his week on the beach with his new bride. (This has happened more than once.) I’ve always taken that with a grain of salt and chalked it up to the problem having more to do with his lack of romance and less to do with my writing. I mean, there’s got to be a reason his wife is bored. Right? See, that’s what I thought.
Until now.
Not five minutes ago, my wife walked up to me with an empty glass, handed it to me and said, “All I want right now is a glass of wine, my pajamas, and Mitch.” As in, Mitch Rapp. As in, Vince Flynn. As in, this is not the first time this week.

I’d like to apologize to all my male readers whose wives have snuffed them in lieu of my books. So sorry. I would lie to you and tell you that it won’t happen again, but that’d be lying. I hope it does. Many times over. But, look at it this way. You only have to contend with me. Every time Vince Flynn puts out a new book, I’ve got to contend with Mitch Rapp. And he can leap tall buildings…
Vince, if you read this, I need a blurb for my next book. It’s called, “Thunder and Rain” and I think you’ll like it. Mitch would. I think it’s the least you can do. Seriously. I’m just saying…
I couldn’t resist reading this… I’m one of those wives! hahaha!
Guilty! More than once.
I found the best way to fix that is to hand him a glass of wine and a silly “He-Man” movie and then I have all bases covered for a good book!
This is hilarious and terribly true. Charles, you’re on my list: I’m so far behind on your novels. Please forgive me for that. No excuses. I hear you’re one of the best!
Yeah, Mitch is just too good. Love him. Can’t wait for Kill Shot.
So why don’t they pick up one of your books and read alongside their wives? CM books aren’t just for gals!
It just so happens that I introduced my wife to you with Where the River Ends. We have both been hooked ever since. BTW I also like Mitch Rapp.
I am a husband; but I am kind of sadden to admit that I am the one reading your books, not my wife. I am the one staying up late to finish “The Mountain Between Us” recently, not her. My wife is too busy to read too much, but I am blessed to have a job in Denver that allows me to commute by bus to and from work each day, so I usually have about an hour a day to read without distraction. I have read all you novels on that bus, more or less. I get about 100 pages from finishing and just keep on reading after everyone has gone to bed.
Husbands… you should read these books too, you will like them, and Mr. Martin will hopefully soften your hearts and help you cherish your bride all the more with each story.

Not being male it is a bit daunting to enter this realm. However, I thought you might like to know that if my husband was the blogging type he would thank you. Your books have shown me very different pictures of marriage than I grew up seeing, of a man’s love for his wife, how men view woman.....your books have been a very real part of my healing journey from years of sexual abuse.
