Movie Update (8/9/11)

For those of you who don’t know, “The Mountain Between Us” was optioned by 20th Century Fox about a year ago. I have no idea if they’ll actually make it a movie BUT I have seen the screenplay. A very good screenplay. It appeared in my inbox one night. I started reading at 11pm and finished around 1am. As I read, I found myself wishing I’d thought of some of the stuff created by the screenwriter. And—and even better sign—I found myself turning pages at a pretty fast clip and I know what happens in the story. ;-)
So, let’s dream for a minute and assume they actually make a movie—who do you like in what roll? (Comments welcome.)
how about Matthew McConaughey as Ben?
What about Anne Hathaway as Ashley?
I agree...Matthew McConaughey as Ben!!
Anne Hathaway would be good but I don’t think she fits the part of someone being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. And I’m not sure if Matthew McConaughey would fit Ben’s role either. He just doesn’t fit as the outdoor-survival type. That’s a tough decision.
Sandra Bullock as Ashley would be my choice.

I hate to say it but I think Brad Pitt would be a great Ben. Just seems to fit him better than any of the other roles he has played. He is the right age and has that rugged looks that Ben has in my mind. Ashley is a hard one....I think she is so special I hate for her to be cliched buy going to the most popluar actress out there. Sandra B is too old for Ashley....Maybe Emma Stone, although maybe too young....all I know is that casting correctly is everything to making this movie as good as the best book I have ever read.
will Maggie (woof) be making an appearance in the movie… or at least the credits? :)
WOOOOOW! ummm That is a hard one! Mathew McConaughey would be awesome. He can pull of just about every role given to him. Matt Damon would also be really good, he could fit the part. Maybe Sam Worthington, he might be good. If they were still young Dennis Quaid,or Kevin Costner could have nailed it. Is Russel Crowe to old? Brad Pitt could do it too. What about Jeffrey Donavan? Jake Gyllenhaal could do it too!
for woman what about Natalie Portman? Or maybe Kiera Knightly? I dunno the girl part is harder....Sandra Bullock is to old.... What do you think Mr. Martin?

I just finished the book last night… I was only going to read a few chapters then join my wife for a nice long sleep… but I could not put the book down once I read that they were leaving the boy scout camp. I was up too late, but it was so worth it, great piece of work Charles, I hope they do make a movie out of it.
I was thinking about who could play the roles as well, and I think it would be best to find some lesser known actors to fill the roles. These characters have so much to give the audience, and it would kind of wasted on the big name actors. Just my humble opinion!
Ok...so the entire time I pictured Ben as Charles Martin...or Charles Martin as Ben, rather..so anyone else will be an adjustment for me! I could see Anne Hathaway as Ashley. Scarlett Johannsen, maybe. I think Anna Sophia Robb is a little too young. Claire Danes...is she still acting?
I believe Ben Affleck could do the job of Ben and Jennifer Garner as Ashley~ I think they could pull is off even though they are married in real life.
I think Mark Raffalo would be great as the main character in The Mountain Between Us if it becomes a movie.
I imagined Ashley looking like Jennifer Garner while I was reading the book - I agree with Lisa: definitely Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck!
Nicholas Sparks has nothing on you. You are ten times the writer he is; I was just wondering when somebody would get a clue and put your books on screen. I’m sure whoever gets the starring roles would have to be approved by you, and we would trust your judgment. You know the “look” you had in mind, I’m sure, when you created the story. I will definitely be a movie fan as well as a book fan!
Since you asked the question of us who we thought would fit to play the characters in the movie The Mountain Between Us, I have thought about it some. Every time I watch the TV show The Gifted Man, the actor who plays Michael Holt, Patrick Wilson is who I see playing Ben. Don’t know why, but just thought I would pass that on. It grabs me every time; that is just my take on the character Ben. For the part of Ashley, I don’t know yet. Maybe the lead characters are already chosen, I so hope that the movie is true to the book and done well. My husband and I will be on the watch for when it is released. I now have my husband hooked on your books too. All the best to you and keep writing....counting down to April 3.
