Movie Stuff…

One of the things we’ve hoped for is that someone in Hollywood would notice my stories. Well…
They did. We got noticed. Long story short, 20th Century Fox has optioned the rights to “The Mountain Between Us.” The attached pictures are proof. That’s me signing the contract. And yes, I’m excited out of my mind. Maybe, in about four years, we’ll have a movie to watch. Christy, the boys, and I are ecstatic.
Note: This means they’ve ‘optioned’ the rights. In English, that means they’ll work toward development and if all that goes well, we might end up with a movie in a few years. So...we want development. In truth, many more books are optioned than are ever turned into movies, BUT it at least gives us a place in line. For that, we’re happy.

Excellent news! Congratulations!! As soon as I finished “The Mountain Between Us” I thought to myself that it would make a great movie - a harrowing experience in a dramatic location and a love story to boot - a blockbuster!! I hope to see more of your stories on the big screen. I’m pushing for Wrapped in Rain and When Crickets Cry.

Congratulations! My wife introduced me to your books a few years ago when we were still dating. Since we’ve been married, we’ve enjoyed reading your stories together and have often commented as to how well they could be made into movies. We celebrate with you that that day has now arrived. That’s wonderful news but haven’t those folks from 21st Century Fox read WHERE THE RIVER ENDS, CHASING FIREFLIES and WHEN CRICKETS CRY? My goodness, they’re not as smart as I’ve given them credit for or they would have jumped on one or all of those stories some time ago…

Hope they make the movie as written. So many movies are BASED on some book and 99% of the time the book is sooooo much better.

Congratulations!!! I am currently reading “The mountain between us”, captivating, as all your books have been. I hope the movie deal comes through, would love-love-love to see the results. I love the relationship between characters you have, and the way Ben is thinking about his wife, it is beautiful; they are love stories that don’t come across the way some do, yours have so much depth and feeling in them, and are clean, I can feel good about sharing them with my friends. I love them. Always waiting for the next one.

So exciting! I just read it on our trip to Yellowstone and promptly handed it to my sister when I finished. I was thinking that it would be awesome if they would make a movie of it. Wrapped in Rain and Chasing Fireflies would make excellent movies too! I hope it works out sooner rather than later!!

I am a Christian medical device rep, I travel extensively and am always looking for a good book to read in airports. Your “ When Crickets Cry” was on my 14 y/o daughters required reading list (from a public school) so I decided to read after she finished it. Wow, You write in the way I think. With all the horrible stuff being put on the screen for so-called entertainment, it’s about time that 20th realized that most of us want to see beautiful movies with great characters who touch our hearts ... you and your books epitomize that Charles! I have fallen in love with each book and was sad when they ended. WRAPPED IN RAIN touched me so and I talk about it (and your other novels) with anyone I know who is a reader.
I pray that Hollywood doesn’t ruin your wonderful tale as it is wonderful just as it is. God bless you and your family as you continue to grow ... in every way.

Totally awesome, Charles. I would love to see movies of all of your work. My favorite among all of your wonderful books is Wrapped in Rain. Would love to see that on film. Even tho I know how movies are made and the process of basically destroying the book and writing the screenplay around the major precepts. I look forward to this film. Keep us posted.

Well, I have to say, I’ve read all your books, except your newest release (which I have on hold at my local library) I love them. I think you are a phenomenal author. Best books I’ve read in ages. Your books have also led me to other great authors from advertisments in the back of your books. (after I read all yours that I knew of, I had to find some other good stuff) Anyway, I always wanted to be an author when I was a child. I wanted the ability to touch people in places that had been touched in me by reading. Your books accomplish that. I have told anyone I know to check out your books. It is cool to know Hollywood is taking notice if you believe God is leading you in that direction. Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading your newest release.
Just finished “The Mountain Between Us”.....and was thinking to myself, “This would make a great movie!” I was sad when I finished the book...because I felt so connected with the characters. Haven’t read all your other books, but am working my way through them. Keep them coming...each one has touched me in its own way...Thanks!
I found this book at the library this afternoon around 3 pm, started reading around 5:30: it’s 1 a.m. and I just finished it. About half way through, I thought they should make this into a movie. I’ve just ordered a personal copy on Barnes & Noble.com to place on my shelf of favorite books, ones I return to time and again. I must now read all your other books. Thank you for your perseverance in getting these words on paper.

I just finished “ The Mountain Between Us”. Another amazing book, Charles. I loved the pictures you make with your words. I just finished reading “The Mountain Between Us.” I am speechless....still just enjoying breathing. I cannot put into words what you can put into words. So I will leave it at that. You wrote that this was not the first book you wrote after “Where the River Ends,” so I got on your blog to read about that and hopefully to see evidence of three more books, since you also wrote...."ten books later,” and I can add. Instead, I saw that “The Mountain Between Us” will be made into a movie. I think their challenge will be to make their movie as good as your book… Btw--you have one year to get your other three books rewritten or do whatever it is you need to do to them. I am from the Midwest, but I’ve been an East Coaster for more years than I will admit...I stopped counting at 15, but at least now I can own the phrase, “Let’s go already.”

From almost the moment I began this book, I was thinking what a great movie this would make. Your writing is so vivid that it has you drawn in so tightly to what is developing that you are truly “right there”. So glad my daughter-in-law introduced me to the book. I must admit I was first mad at her until I stopped mourning Rachel and the babies. Then I wanted to know more about the author and what he was up to. Can’t wait to read more of your work. You are truly one of God’s special people.
That is wonderful news! My Grandma bought your book for both of us to share and we both agreed once we finished that it would make a terrific movie. We even went as far as picking which actors and actresses that we would cast for the lead roles :) We will be crossing our fingers for you that all goes well and this inspiring book will make it to the big screen!
Why don’t you do what Don Miller did with his book, Blue Like Jazz, and raise your own money for your movie? Just a thought. He has a miracle going on over there!

Ever since the title, Chasing Fireflies, caught my eye in a bookstore last year, I kept on, until I read all of your books, 6 up to that time, I believe-----in about two weeks!! I kept checking until you came out with the last one, and ordered it, too!

I just finished reading this book about 10 min ago. My husband and I ‘discovered’ you about 3 months ago… and have read the 6 books we could get a hold of, starting with Dead don’t Dance… each book I read, I wept, laughed, sobbed, smiled… read aloud to my husband, while he lay beside me reading a different one.. We love you, and can’t wait for what you have next for us.

A friend loaned me the first book of yours that I read. For Christmas I got a “Nook” as a gift. First thing I downloaded all of your books and have now read them all. I hope your next book comes out soon. The Mountain Between Us will make an excellent movie and I hope it happens. I want you to know that one of the best things about your books is the fact there are no “ugly” parts like most writers where they just have to insert curse words and sex! Books like your are what Christians want to read and what we enjoy reading. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

Hi Charles, I was up until 1 am this morning reading The Mountain Between Us. My husband of 25 years and I have 5 kids,so I often burn the midnight oil to read a great book. I’ve read all your books ,but I could not put this one down. I was so happy to read that your very redeeming book will be on the big screen soon. I can’t wait to take my hubby. I am new to your books that is to say I am HOOKED...I got Where the River Ends read it in 2 days and passed it to my husband who read it in 2 days. I was so moved I posted on facebook what an excellent author you are. I had a similar journey with my Mom and brain cancer in 2004! Next we got Chasing Fireflies and The Mountain Between Us we each read them in 2 days and exchange reading the other. We are both so impressed with your work, I was born and raised in Clay County to read so much about the area I knew you had to be local. Was thinking about it after the last reading, this is the kind of book that would make a really good movie. I am so excited about this news! Thanks for a great story and a clean read!
Having read all books prior to The Mtn, I was excited to see another book available from such
a talented author. I knew within a short time that this book was a movie. Several friends
and I even dicussed which actors would be selected. All your books are special. Each one
better than the next, but The Mtn is over the top. Keep writing and I will keep reading.
I couldn’t be more excited! Congratulations! As I was reading this book, I kept thinking “It would be amazing if they could make this into a movie.” because it is such a BEAUTIFUL story and in m opinion it had great potential to make it in Hollywood. And now that’s one step closer to reality! I remember my eyes burning from staying up so late to finish this book. It was such a page turner. I didn’t expect it to be as romantic as it was. Your writing style was captivating and heartfelt to say the least.
I picked up one of your books at the library, read it in one day then went and purchased everything I could find you had written. Your words are beautiful and the imagery keeps me from putting the book down until I’m done. I am so happy you get to make the movie.
