Couple of Reviews
Posted in Press Reviews on Wed, July 14, 2010
Reviews have been hard to come by. Maybe it’s the economy. Here are a couple.
I so enjoyed The Mountain Between Us! I’ve read all of Charles Martin’s books, and could not choose a favorite if I had to! They just grab you on such an emotional level, and his latest is no exception. Should have known better, but I was finishing it up sitting in a hotel resturant having coffee and had to leave before I made a total crying fool of myself! Great read.
The Mountain Between Us is a must read. Couldn’t put it down! Have read all your other books three times and I am sure I will this one also. You really fooled me on the ending. Great Book! Am anxiously waiting for the next.
I think this is your best book yet, and definitely one of the best I have ever read. I am an avid reader and I do not purchase many new releases in hard-back, but I cannot resist yours. I have been recommending The Mountain Between Us as a MUST read to everyone I know, and even some that I don’t! Never in a million years could I have predicted the ending - WOW!
Happy writing! :)
Charles Martin is a breath of fresh air in a polluted world. If he ever stops writing, I may just have to commit hare kare. My best friend was a successful author of historical fiction. She died an untimely death in the 90’s and I have struggled to find a author about whose works I could become that passionate again. Then I found Charles Martin. My only criticism of his work is that it is so good, I stay up and read cover to cover then I grieve that I have to wait another year until he publishes another book.
The Mountain Between Us is one of your best, Charles. I enjoyed the introduction to a wilderness area I had never even heard of. Fell in love with the characters - your character development is exceptional. And I love that in your books, you can never predict the ending until you get there. Just a really, really good read. I thank you a million times over and I cannot imagine one of your manuscripts being turned down. The only good in that is that we will get to read it in many books to come. Never, ever stop writing Charles.
This has to be your best book. I can usually predict some of the ending, but this one had me completely baffled. I would never have guessed the ending. I am an avid reader and I couldn’t put this book down, it is a real page-turner. What a great book. I can’t wait for your next novel.
Just finished reading The Mountain Between Us. Took my breath away. What a surprise ending. I absolutely loved this book, I now want to read all of the Charles Martin books. I did read Where th River Ends and enjoyed that as well. Just a great writer with wonderfl stories to tell. Thank you.
My first Charles Martin book, When Crickets Cry, was given to me by a co-worker. I couldn’t put it down. So immediately I went out and purchased another book, The Mountain Between Us, and again, couldn’t put the book down because each time I did I couldn’t get the story out of my head for longer than 2 minutes ... flipping the story about in my mind, trying to figure out the ending (bad habit) so here I sit grainy eyed from reading this amazing book half the night and I just wanted to say thank you for taking me on such an incredible journey! I will defo be going out and buying your other books, well, okay, maybe after I’ve cooked several meals for my husband, since he knows once I get wrapped up in one of your books he can probably count on eating take out. ;-) And finally, please keep on keeping on ... don’t let the rejection of a manuscript keep you from telling these stories that live in your heart and mind ... they should be shared. God has truly blessed you with a great talent ... I pray His best, every day, to you and your beautiful family.
Charles, Thank you very much for sharing with all of us avid readers your talent for writing exceptionally good books. I found you with ‘When Crickets Cry’ and have purchased all of them. I have just finished ‘Mountain’. It is your best to date. I have many of the women at my Florida church fellowship hooked on your books and look forward to passing ‘Mountain’ on to them, after I read it again! As a native of Texas and a recent transplant to Florida I look forward to your Texas book.
I stumbled across “Wrapped in Rain” right after it was published in 2006. I was an instant fan. I couldn’t believe how good it was. I’m like other fans. I hate waiting a year for a new one. I’m 60 years old and read 75 to 100 books a year. Nobody knows the human heart like Charles Martin. He is the best. I loved The Mountain Between Us. Perfect pitch writing every time. “Crickets” is still my favorite. I’d like to compare the pleasure of reading a Charles Martin to something else, but I can’t think of anything.
I have read all your books and have passed them on to friends. My favorites so far have been Wrapped in Rain and When Crickets Cry. Both of these had more than just a story with well developed character--there was a spiritual depth to them that grip and give meaning to great sorrows. Although I appreciated the plot and polish and the characters in The Mountain Between Us it did not have that same depth. Dr. Payne was a good man but there was no explanation for that goodness—nor was there any reason for his healing except that he found someone else. This was all right but I would have like more of what I found in the first two.
Keep writing!
I found Charles Martin books last year and devoured all of them in short order. I love the depth in each story and the hope that comes through in the midst of brokenness. I just finished the Mountain Between Us this morning before going to church. I loved the ending but hated to see it end. I am a 64 year old woman who has been married 43 years to the love of my life and it does get better. We have not had easy lives, but we have allowed the difficulties to pull us together rather than apart. There is hope and Charles verbalizes it in beautiful ways. I hope there are many more books to come.
Loved the new book. Would love to read the one thet wasn’t released. I am a huge fan and just might read the mountain between us again after that ending!!!
Finished Mountain last night. This is a beautiful story...love, friendship, survival, grief & faith. I have learned from personal experience and from the pages of this book, some things we only learn in the “valley” and not on the mountain. Charles Martin is a master at showing the reader their very own soul.. Thank you for coming to Highlands, NC this summer and for another wonderful journey in Mountain. I was the one in tears!
I finished The Mountain Between Us yesterday and absolutely loved it. I was so eager to get to the end to find out what happened, but so sad when I reached it because it was over. Prior to having kids, I would read aloud to my husband while he was driving as we took trips. I want to share this one with him even without a trip! I am anxious to read your other books.
Before “The Mountain Between Us” I had never read one of your books. I had never even heard of you. I had given up on finding good fiction books and hadn’t read one in at least 5 or 6 years. My wife has become a fan of yours though and recommended this book to me. I read it in 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. What a fantastic book. I plan to now buy all of your books and read them all. You have inspired me through the character of Ben in this story to be a better man than I have been. Thank-you is all I can say.
