A Conversation with My Kids…About Sex
Posted in Interviews Reader Mail The Kitchen Sink on Tue, May 31, 2011
(And a few other random thoughts.)
Folks have been asking me, ‘What’s life like around the Martin household, where do your ideas come from, are you always serious...?”
Here’s a pretty good window into one of the more humorous mornings at our breakfast table.
This is soooooo funny. I am sure your boys will be just fine and their wives will thank you for having this talk with them. I will thabnk you for being their dad and not causing emotional harm. My husband still laughs with me because his MOM decided she needed to have this talk and used CHARTS. I mean really. :-)
In this ongoing conversation, Passport 2 Purity, a FamilyLife resource is great and may help undo some of the scarring! :)
I just finished “the dead don’t dance” and today my husband and I are buying “maggie.” We are looking forward to reading all of your books. Enjoyed your video about how you shared talking to your kids about sex, I remember that day too! As gently as I could, I conveyed to my little darling a fairytale like prince and princess story that emerged with a disney ending, sort of like “lady and the tramp.” Feeling quite proud of myself, I was shocked at Amanda’s reaction. Its like I dropped a big bomb on my youngest daughter and she ran away screaming saying “ I’m never having babies!” Ok, well, I messed that one up. I sometimes think that maybe the old folks had it right, some things are better left unsaid. Yet most of us know that they should hear the facts from us rather than from some stranger, and five grandsons later, I’m still amused at every parent who has to endure “the sex talk.”
Now for the real question, is your dog an english setter? Male or Female? Just wondering, we had a male english setter for eleven years and I miss him (Caleb). He was a great dog, my husband is a hunter and we would take Caleb out and watch him hunt birds. That dog was so into his instinct that he would wear himself out and end up collapsing on the floor when we would get home. Caleb’s other great love was running and jumping off the dock at the boat launch, kind of like those “air dogs” on Animal Planet. One year we took him to “woods and water” and entered him into a contest to see how far the dogs could jump. He jumped 11 ft into the air before landing in a pool of water. What great memories we have of him. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.
Charles, Your books have turned me back into a reader. I can’t wait to finish one and find the next one to read. As far as your videos........I look forward to watching them. It shows you as a real person just like the rest of us. You are incredibly talented and I thank God for you. I agree with your wife.......look at the camera more. I know that’s difficult. So, there, keep it up and keep writing. I can’t wait to see if your book becomes a movie. Please don’t let them change it as so many movies have done to books. Blessings, Noreen
Sehr nette Darstellung! Kostenloses Girokonto Danke
Just as I have finished reading all the stories…it just changed my life in a different state..Now I have to look at life in it’s brighter side..thanks to this site.. Keep up the good work in inspiring and touching lives..
